- Studied sociology at New York University, Columbia University, and University of Chicago

- Professor

-Published a book "Men at Work"

-Sociologist

- Photographed immigrants

- Realized that his photos could bring about social reform

- Was hired by the National Child Labor Committee

- Hired as school's photographer

- Realized taking photographs had power to reveal the truth, so he started using it as an educational tool

-Took sweatshop pictures because he thought it would encourage people to "exert the force to right wrongs"

-Died on Nov. 3 1940
